Compensation

Salary Range: $24.57 - $34.18 per hour

Responsibilities

Position Overview: 

Under general supervision in Central Services, the Inventory Specialist performs inventory maintenance, supply ordering, and restocking for patient care areas to ensure adequate supplies are available for patient use. Restocks and maintains storage within Central Services; and performs other duties as assigned. As part of the Central Services team, this position participates in team activities and assignments, works together with other team members to accomplish organizational and departmental goals and objectives, and assists any member of the department’s team when the need arises or is observed.

Qualifications

Required:

  •  High school diploma, or equivalent (GED)
  • Two (2) years of experience in central supply, purchasing, inventory or related field

Preferred:

  • One (1) year of related work experience in an acute care hospital setting
  • Five (5) years of experience in central supply, purchasing, inventory, or related field

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares and maintains records for inventory control, such as purchase orders, receipts, packaging records, supplies dispensed, and patient accounts.
  2. Prepares packs of supplies, instruments, and dressings and treatment trays, according to designated lists or codes, and wraps, labels, and seals packs.
  3. Stores supplies/inventory in designated areas, including some which require special handling (i.e., sterile supplies).
  4. Delivers sterile and other supplies to hospital departments.
  5. Rotates stock inventory and removes outdated products.
  6. Coordinates returns of unusable or expired merchandise/supplies.
  7. Replenishes unit stock items using inventory control system.
  8. Maintains and cleans equipment used in Central Services.
  9. Fills requisitions, ensures charge slips are placed on supplies, charges and inventories supplies.
  10. Prepares supplies and charges for resale to physicians.
  11. Maintains charges to ensure follow-up on physicians' accounts.
  12. Orders special and stock items with approval from Central Services Supervisor.
  13. Analyzes purchase data and uses Excel to forecast future needs by sorting purchase history and developing Excel trend patterns.
  14. Uses Excel to identify items ordered most frequently and how often.
  15. Performs a variety of clerical tasks in support of Central Services operations.
  16. May perform a variety of light housekeeping tasks in order to maintain a safe and clean environment in Central Services.
  17. Ensures customer satisfaction by providing assistance and guidance with respect to materials needs. Strives to exceed customer expectations by looking for ways to improve services.
  18. Identifies the need for changes in procedures and takes initiative to implement within assigned area of responsibility or makes a recommendation for change to the responsible party.
  19. Orients new employees as requested.
  20. Leads small-group training or in one-on-one situations for supply/material procedures.
  21. Participates in and supports the departmental performance improvement process.
  22. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times and otherwise abides by HIPAA compliance regulations.
  23. Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Inventory Specialist position provides direction to other Central Services Technicians. As a lead worker, this position makes work assignments on a daily basis and reports problems, including employee performance issues, to the area manager. In addition, this position must possess the ability to write legibly and communicate effectively and professionally with others, be assertive and consistent in following policies, work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure, and collaborate effectively with others.
